It was in the beginning of 2017 that BIT joinedPorto Tech Hub, an association that brings together the best technologycompanies within the Greater Porto area and firstly seeks to promote synergiesbetween companies in the IT field, namely to attract talent and innovationability, at the same time as it promotes the city of Porto as an outstandingtechnological centre.
This association is also responsible for one ofthe biggest technology events in Portugal, Porto Tech Hub Conference, whichgathered, last August 20th, over 800 people connected to technologyat Alfândega do Porto's conference centre. We were part of the event'sorganization right from the start and helped bring to Portugal a group of ITexperts, like Simona Cotin (Microsoft), Benjamin Fuentes (IBM) or GuillaumePicho (Ebay).
At BIT we have contributed to the growth ofthis IT community in many ways, such as:
- Our part as organisers and sponsors of the conference;
- Our support, hosting and supporting students and IT communities like Net.Ponto, Girl Geek Dinner, Porto Lean Coffee Portugal and Startup Coffee, among others;
- The Switch Program, a post-graduation course that will be held at ISEP, which aims to provide digital tools to students with BA's in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, giving them new skills and allowing them to divert their careers to the IT field.
All this work meets our strategy of comingcloser to the IT community, which relied on projects like HeartBit Tours – aninitiative that opened our building to higher education students – and BITWise, a monthly event for sharing knowledge, which has brought experts fromseveral fields to BIT, or the various external events in which we haveparticipated, mostly in universities.
